ARC (Audio Return Channel)

What is the meaning ARC (Audio Return Channel)?

ARC (Audio Return Channel) is a feature of certain HDMI ports that allows audio to flow both ways between a TV and an external audio device, such as a soundbar or AV receiver, using a single HDMI cable.

Normally, HDMI carries video and audio from a source device to the TV, but with ARC, the TV can send audio back to the connected audio system without requiring an extra optical or audio cable. This simplifies home entertainment setups, reduces cable clutter, and enables the TV to act as a central hub for audio from streaming apps, built-in TV tuners, or other connected devices. The enhanced version, eARC (Enhanced Audio Return Channel), supports high-quality, uncompressed audio formats like Dolby TrueHD and Dolby Atmos for a more immersive sound experience.
