What is the meaning ARC (Audio Return Channel)?

ARC (Audio Return Channel) is a feature of certain HDMI ports that allows audio to flow both ways between a TV and an external audio device, such as a soundbar or AV receiver, using a single HDMI cable.

Normally, HDMI carries video and audio from a source device to the TV, but with ARC, the TV can send audio back to the connected audio system without requiring an extra optical or audio cable.
