Security Protocols

What is the meaning of Security Protocols?

Security Protocols are the set of rules and technologies used to protect data transmission between the satellite, the user’s receiver, and the network from unauthorized access, interception, or tampering.

Since satellite communications travel over open airwaves, they are vulnerable to eavesdropping, hacking, or data corruption. Security protocols ensure encryption of data, secure authentication of devices, and integrity checks so that only authorized users can access the network and the transmitted data remains confidential and unaltered. Modern satellite internet providers implement protocols such as TLS/SSL, VPN compatibility, WPA2/WPA3 for Wi-Fi, and end-to-end encryption to safeguard both user communications and network operations, maintaining privacy and protecting against cyber threats.
