USB PD Requirement

What is the meaning of USB PD Requirement ?

It specifies the type and amount of power a device, such as a satellite terminal or modem, needs to operate through a USB connection.

Unlike standard USB charging, USB PD allows a single USB cable—usually USB-C—to deliver higher voltage and current, enabling devices to receive sufficient power safely and efficiently. For portable or compact satellite internet terminals, USB PD can eliminate the need for bulky external power adapters by providing reliable power directly through the USB port. The requirement typically defines the minimum voltage and current needed, for example, 20V at 5A, to ensure the device functions correctly. If the connected power source does not meet this specification, the device may experience malfunction, slow startup, or connection drops, compromising internet performance. Essentially, the USB PD requirement guarantees that the satellite internet equipment receives stable and adequate power, which is critical for maintaining a continuous and reliable internet connection.
