HDR Compatibility

What is the meaning of HDR Compatibility ?

It refers to the TV’s ability to support High Dynamic Range (HDR) content, which is a technology that significantly enhances picture quality by increasing the contrast between the darkest blacks and the brightest whites while expanding the range of colors displayed.

A TV with HDR compatibility can render more lifelike images, making bright scenes appear more dazzling and dark scenes more detailed without losing shadow information. There are several HDR standards—such as HDR10, HDR10+, Dolby Vision, and HLG—each with its own method of handling brightness and color data. HDR10 is the most widely supported, providing static metadata to optimize the entire content, whereas Dolby Vision offers dynamic metadata, adjusting brightness and color scene-by-scene or frame-by-frame for a more precise display. For HDR to work effectively, the TV must have sufficient peak brightness, contrast ratio, and color gamut coverage, as well as proper processing capabilities. In addition, HDR content itself (from streaming services, Blu-rays, or gaming consoles) is necessary to fully utilize the TV’s HDR features. Therefore, when a smart TV claims HDR compatibility, it indicates that it can interpret HDR content correctly and enhance the viewing experience with more vivid, realistic visuals.
